About me…

Hello, my name is Keith Harper, and I am Senior Professor of Baptist Studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina where I have taught since 1996. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I also edit the America’s Baptists Series for the University of Tennessee Press. It may go without saying, but this website is dedicated to Baptist history. Welcome to the Baptist History Forum!

About this forum…

The blog…the Forum’s blog will feature entries on aspects of Baptist history. While I will be the primary contributor, readers will also see entries from other historians. We will try to keep it on the slightly lighter side, but this site has the potential to be a certain kind of nerd’s paradise. Promise. My goal is to spotlight aspects of Baptist history and offer observations and, hopefully, a measure of insight thereon. As such, I invite participation from others.

Podcasts…I’m new at this so podcasting will be an adventure for me. For the time being, we will file this under the heading of “Coming Soon.”

Books…I love books. Really. And, given my work with the University of Tennessee Press, I am especially interested in calling attention to works in the America’s Baptists Series. I may also note other works as time and space permits.

What this forum is not…

Now for some basic guidelines. We will call them rules because…they are. This forum is not a platform to vent your frustrations. There are plenty of other places where that occurs, but this is not one of them. My goal is to promote healthy, constructive discussion of Baptist history. If you want to complain about something or personally attack someone, this is NOT the venue for you.

If you wish to make a comment, please identify yourself. It is not too much to ask. I know that some people like to hide behind the anonymity of a faceless keyboard. However, since my goal is to promote healthy discussion, it is reasonable to know who is making the comment. Anonymous comments or posts submitted  under an obvious pseudonym will be deleted.

No profanity.

That pretty much covers it. Again, my goal is to offer a place where ideas can be exchanged freely. You may disagree with many things I post. That’s fine. In fact, I would be afraid to see a time when everyone agreed with me anyway. You may disagree with others who offer comments. That is fine, too, as long as you do it respectfully.

Please help me make the Baptist History Forum an enjoyable experience for those who visit and participate.
